About the project:

This was a degree project. It was actually one of my first models of a prototype idea. The task was to solve with common and cheap materials a bird cage design. My aproach was to achieve also something with a functionality point of view. I presonaly do not like caged animals.

 

If I had to design a cage, I usually like the biggest possible space for our pets. On the other hand I also liked this objects to be easily transportable. And suddenly, opposite needs became a design goal. A self-folding bird cage concept to alow maximum space with minimum transport volume. All sticks where our birds can stand, are automaticaly placed when expanding the cage from the top. 

 

The top is made of bamboo IKEA plates. Body is made of curved wood strings obtained from an IKEA paper lamp. Removable Plastic tray at the bottom alow easy cleaning. Total Height 1,45 m, folded height: 40 cm.
